Fit

Wide, enveloping fit, typical Altra: spacious toe box, secure midfoot. The single BOA performs better than the dual system seen on the Mont Blanc BOA, with less heel slippage.

Feel

Ego Max midsole with a slightly softer feel than the standard Timp 5, but not particularly responsive or energetic. Good stability on flat ground and moderate technical terrain.

Durability

Vibram Mega Grip outsole with 3.5–4 mm lug depth rated excellent on mixed and wet terrain. No precise mileage data available from sources; upper with TPU overlays resistant to tears and abrasion.

Best for

Medium-to-long pace trail and ultratrail for runners already adapted to zero drop. Not recommended for those coming from high-drop shoes or looking for an asphalt daily trainer.

Weak points

Upper breathes poorly and retains water after river crossings. The stiffer center band of the BOA can create pressure on the top of the foot during long outings or on technical terrain.
