Fit

Fit revised on the Skyfire last: snugger through the midfoot and forefoot, heel lockdown improved over previous versions but not yet perfect. Runners with a wide forefoot will find less room.

Feel

FloatPro midsole is medium-firm with limited energy return; protection and ground connection are solid, but lacks character compared to version 5. Some runners note the midsole loosens up after a break-in period.

Durability

Vibram Mega Grip outsole with 5 mm lugs; rubber coverage described as substantial. High mileage expected; engineered mesh upper designed to hold up over time.

Best for

Technical and mixed trail at moderate pace, distances up to half marathon according to more critical runners, up to 100 km according to Merrell. Well suited to loose terrain, mud, and wet rock; disadvantaged on pavement and hardpack.

Weak points

Midsole noticeably firmer than version 5, with low energy return. Heel lockdown is improved but not definitive — some runners need to use the top eyelet to achieve a satisfactory lock.
