Asics Superblast 3 review: what runners say
Fit
Fit similar to previous versions, slightly wide with more volume in the toe box. Sizing unchanged from SB1 and SB2.
Feel
Soft underfoot thanks to the top-layer FF Leap; at easy paces the Blast Plus base layer reads as a supportive structure. At moderate to long efforts the forefoot bounce pod performs well, but some runners find the combo too soft and less responsive than the SB2.
Durability
FF Leap and ATPU show good overall durability; however, early wear and loss of lugs in the forefoot outsole zone within the first 100 km has been reported by at least one source. The Blast Plus base layer appears less durable than in the SB2 under the same conditions.
Best for
Easy-pace long runs or marathon training, high-mileage daily trainer. Not the go-to for fast sessions or as an unplated race shoe — a role the SB2 filled more decisively.
Weak points
The shift to FF Leap reduces responsiveness compared to the SB2; some runners prefer the firmer midsole of the previous version. Forefoot outsole wear reported as abnormal within the first 100 km.
