Fit

Wide fit, consistent with Altra's philosophy: spacious toe box, good splay. Some runners report longitudinal and lateral slippage, especially on uneven terrain.

Feel

Ego P35 midsole is soft with mild responsiveness; smooth ride with a hint of rocker. Cushioning feels firmer than expected on rocky sections or long descents.

Durability

MaxTrac or Vibram Megagrip outsole; wear reported on MaxTrac after few outings on snow/ice. One tester completed 92 miles and 15,000 feet of elevation gain without notable structural issues.

Best for

Versatile everyday trail, mixed terrain from moderate to technical. Also suitable as a travel/trail crossover for runners transitioning from traditional drop toward low drop.

Weak points

Insufficient lockdown on aggressive technical terrain: recurring forefoot and lateral slippage. The toe cap can contact the big toe on long descents.
